Designing a Website is Like Writing A Best Seller

As an analogy, designing a Website is very similar to the process of writing a novel. Once you have selected the Title and have a basic outline in your head as to how the story will unfold, the real work begins. Most would-be writers start books and never finish them. Others finish their books and cannot get them published. Some publish their books but are not able to sell enough of them.

The same is true of the Internet except with the Internet anything, good or bad is easy to publish. There are millions of websites, all fighting for our attention. Some are half written, some are complete but poorly written, many are well written but not promoted properly and a very few are both well written and well read.

Creative Process

Website Design and Development Process

We act as your ghostwriter, taking your concept and writing the words in a style that will bring your thoughts to life and we work hard to incorporate the necessary words that help create best sellers.

Writing properly for the Internet requires the author to be well versed in many languages. Many quick-buck programmers rely on just one or two easy to use languages to write all of their programs, leaving you with a book that will need to rewriting every time your business evolves.

At Web Tech Support we work with you to understand the future goals of your Internet presence and then determine the languages that will serve your purpose now and into the future. Once we have done that we can assign the specialists that are well versed in the required languages to assist you in writing a bestseller.

It amazes us that many companies spend a fortune furnishing their offices, training their employees, buying the latest equipment and hiring consultants to create a company image, buying fancy business cards and printing elaborate brochures but then have a cheap website created that does not match the personality of their enterprise. In today’s competitive society, that has become more Internet based for developing initial contacts, communications and new product or concept launches. Your website is one of the most important “image tools” you can use to tell the world about your organization and great care should be taken to make the best first and lasting impression possible.

Keeping your website updated and changing it to reflect changes within your marketing plan or organizational structure is an ongoing process, and Web Support Tech is there to assist you in evolving the site over time.

Having a well planned and designed website can help reduce all your other marketing expenditures. Your broadcast advertising on radio and Television and your print ads in newspapers, magazines and even the yellow pages can be shorter and direct the audience to your website, saving you money.

Your company website is one of your key communications, marketing and sales solutions. If a good website is working for you 24 hours a day, a bad website is working against you 24 hours a day. So… here is how we write your book… and in turn, create the best possible website for your company

The Prologue: Our No Charge, No Commitment Initial Consultation

For your comfort, you can print out our non-disclosure form that will insure that any information you provide us is confidential.
Web Tech Support provides you with a questionnaire to help you determine your goals and objectives. We ask that you give this form a good deal of thought so that you incorporate all of your requirements for us to review and then discuss with you when we speak.

Table of Contents: A Review of the Points to be covered

Once you have filled out the form and submitted it to us for review, we will arrange a time that is convenient to you for a thorough review of your project. For this first exploratory consultation, we can conference call by phone, communicate through Skype or use any Instant Messenger service of your choice.
During this meeting, we will ask additional questions and offer a variety of solutions to meet your needs. We may also offer you suggestions on how to expand your vision to increase your chances of reaching your target audience.

As we dig deeper into your full level of expectations, we will be doing so to determine which team leader will be the best match for your needs, how long the project will take and will be able to give you a time line and a quote for our services within 24 hours.

Once we agree on the basis for our working relationship, we will enter into a Contract for Services covered here to eliminate any ambiguities as to what each of the parties will provide and what each will receive. We will also create an Escrow account with a 3rd Party as described here to manage payments for the services we provide and the work we produce. We request 1/3 of the total payment to initiate your project.

If Logo development is required in the initial project contract, we will supply you with several options from which to choose. As we start the rough draft of your project, a Web Support Tech Project Manager will work with a selected team of designers and programmers to use your outline to conceptualize and prepare two different design mockups with the look and feel of your site as it would look online. We will incorporate your company logo, type style, color theme, graphics and pictures to give you a clear set of options from which to select. If neither mockup meets your approval, a third option will be presented. Additional mockups will result in additional charges

Chapter 2: First Draft Design and Testing

Once you have selected your design, the background coding and programming begins in earnest. We take the mockup and build the project software, selecting the applications and languages that will be used and add HTML coding and other scripting that is necessary to add the functionality required for your project. The programming languages may include PHP, JAVA, Flash, ASP.NET, MY-SQL amongst others. This stage also includes the creation of additional graphics and the beginning of optimization. Many programmers and web developers today focus too much on designing sites to meet the needs of search engines. With Web Support Tech as each page of your site is built, we view it in two distinctly different but interrelated ways.

First, we design it adding the keywords in the correct density. You will supply the initial buzzwords for your industry and we will add to them. We incorporate metatags to help define the purpose of the pages and add as much of the content information as possible in a format that encourages a search engine spider to see more than just the home page (typical) in order to maximize your rankings in organic (unpaid) search.

Then when the technical side is completed we add in the elements that make your site warm and friendly so when your members/users, or web surfers see it, they want to stay a while and thoroughly check it out.

If yours is an e-Commerce site, we will add your Shopping Cart. You will need to have set up your Merchant Accounts and Payment Gateways, a relatively easy process with which we can assist you.

During this phase, you will have access to a working version of your site on our server. You can check our progress, test its functionality, and make suggested edits to the site design. This communication is critical at this stage as we are laying the foundation for the finished project. Any major changes should be made during this stage in keeping with the agreed upon scope of the project

The second escrow payment is released at this stage

Chapter 3: The Final Chapter… bringing it all together.

The project is nearing completion and all the elements are now in place. You and your Web Support Tech Project Manager will go through the site and review its functionality and instructions for use. Minor changes can still be made during this stage to add ease of operation and navigation of the site. If your initial specifications called for a training manual, we will prepare one that covers the basic operations of your website both from the User’s perspective and from the Administrator’s perspective

The Index

In computer terms, the index is called a Site Map, and it is a list of all the parts of your website with links to the pages where the information can be found. The site map is used for ease of navigation and is a key location search engines use to “index” your site.

Publishing Your Work

The project is now complete and running on our Server. During the final step, after a release of the balance of funds being held in escrow, and any other amounts agreed to during the development process, we will migrate the site to a server of your choosing, confirm that the transfer was successful, and make any necessary adjustments to fit the subtle nuances of your server. We will also release your code and all graphics designed for your site on a CD so that you have full control and are not reliant on us if you choose to bring the management of your site fully in-house. We keep a copy of all code in case there are issues that need to be resolved or if you wish to add or remove elements over time.

The Epilogue

No good book is written without a recap of the process. In ending the programming portion of our project, we offer you Free Support for a period of no less than 30 days, during which time any bugs that appear will be fixed at no charge. However, if additional programming is required to add new elements that are not covered in your original design specifications we will negotiate a new fee for such work. We can offer additional services to maintain your site, update your site to incorporate the latest evolutions in technology, continue the process of Search Engine Optimization, oversee Keyword purchases on Google and other Search Engines and take on partial or full control of the Admin side of the site.
